MailEnable Professional Edition 2.32 was susceptible to a critical Denial MailEnable Professional Edition 2.32 was susceptible to a critical Denial of Service (DoS) and potential System Compromise vulnerability (CVE-2005-2365).
The flaw was a buffer overflow located within the SMTP service. Remote attackers could exploit this by sending a specially crafted "MAIL FROM" command containing an excessively long email address.
This malicious input would trigger the buffer overflow, causing the MailEnable SMTP service to crash, resulting in a Denial of Service. More severely, successful exploitation could potentially allow for arbitrary code execution, granting the attacker control over the underlying system with the privileges of the MailEnable service. This presented a significant risk of full system compromise. Users were urged to upgrade to a patched version to address this critical security vulnerability.

4) Description of Vulnerability
Secunia Research has discovered two vulnerabilities in MailEnable,
which can be exploited by malicious users to cause a DoS (Denial of
service) or compromise a vulnerable system.
1) A boundary error in the handling of arguments passed to the EXAMINE
and SELECT commands within the IMAP service (MEIMAPS.EXE) can be
exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via an overly long
argument.
Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code.
2) An input validation error in the handling of arguments passed to
the DELETE command within the IMAP service (MEIMAPS.EXE) can be
exploited to cause a stack overflow and crash the service by sending
an overly long argument consisting of "*" or "?" characters.
